Montessori Education

The Montessori education is a mature and elegant educational approach for the proper psychological, physical, and mental development of children, ingenuously developed by great Italian educator Maria Montessori. Montessori education system presents an educational approach to guide the desired natural development of children during their formative years.

Today, Montessori education is quite prominent all across the world, and is gaining gradual popularity with the passage of time. Montessori education system is very popular in USA since the year 1960, with thousands of American schools following this educational approach. There are a large number of Montessori schools in its various States duly affiliated to and recognized by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), which was established by Maria Montessori in the year 1929 in Italy. However, this Montessori education system has been greatly availed of by the affluent and prosperous sections of society in India and other countries of the world. The Montessori system of education still has to gain ground in the small cities and villages of India.

Indian Montessori Training Courses (IMTC)

Indian Montessori Training Courses (IMTC) is conducted by the Indian Montessori Centre (IMC), to spread the principles and philosophy of Maria Montessori in children education. IMC is a registered society with its headquarters in Bangalore, India, and has its chapters in the cities of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and Bangalore (Karnataka). The Indian Montessori Centre (IMC) has been conducting training courses for children and teachers for decades.

Indian Montessori Training courses (IMTC) are conducted every year for giving diploma certificates to the successful children belonging to the age range from two-and-a-half years to six years. This diploma awarded after the successful completion of the IMTC, grooms the children into Montessori-trained highly impressive adult.

Montessori Method of Education

The Montessori Method of education offers the children to develop freely and spontaneously in the right direction, and also enables to develop their natural and unique abilities and capacities to learn, know, and do things important for building better personality. This Montessori Method of education takes into accounts the following three important facts about children:

  • A child is an independent individual, different from other children and adults
  • A child possesses sensitivity and natural ability to gain knowledge from the surrounding environment, and develop its own capability.
  • A child (under the age of six years) undergoes a path of psychological development, and its unconscious learning comes out to the conscious level gradually, with the help of adults.

Montessori Schools in India

Montessori schools in India are duly affiliated to and recognized by organizations like Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), Indian Montessori Centre (IMC), or Indian Montessori Association (IMA). These schools following the principles of Maria Montessori (1870–1952), are spread all across the country in its various States. The reach of such schools is still limited to the opulent sections of society in India, but is expanding gradually day by day to the other sections of society.

There are Montessori schools that provide education to the elementary, middle, and high school levels, but most of the Montessori schools of India give developmental education to the children of the age varying from 2 to 6 years.
