Ranbir Makes Box Office Race over Cousin Kareena

In Barfi, deaf and mute character played by Ranbir Kapoor, seems to be offering cousin Kareena Kapoor’s sensational avatar in Heroine a sprint for her wealth

The lovable and simple love story of a mute and deaf boy in the film 'Barfi!' appears to have touched the heartstrings of audience who are yet gathering theatres to relish the eccentric romantic essence. But other side, Heroine with an overindulging of glitz, doesn’t appear to have the same achieve on the moviegoers.

It is clear from the truth that Barfi makes Rs 30 crore on releasing date Sep 14, has scraped in Rs 82.05 crore net at the domestic box-office, while Heroine, which released a week later, has collected just Rs 32 crore. Produced at a budget of Rs.20 crore, it has simply earned the cost, but don’t seem to big victory as Barfi.

However, both the films are produced and distributed under the Disney UTV. “Barfi is doing its best performance in all across global markets. The movie is also resounding with audience and such sustenance across second weekend and weekdays is rare to see in recent times”, said Amrita Pandey, Executive Director – syndication, global distribution, studios, Disney UTV. Barfi is also made their entry to the prestigious Academy Awards in best foreign language film and also nominated for Oscar.

According to Pandey, none of the female-centric films in few past years have got a response as good as "Heroine". The film had a unique opening in all major worldwide markets. This is highly expected movie and our marketing thrust has helped to attract huge masses.
