A Mumbaikar Donates Gold to Somnath Temple

A Mumbai-based business family unit has donated a gold platter weighing about 30 kg and value about Rs 11 crore to the historical Somnath temple of Gujarat. The platter, bestowed by businessman Dilip Lakhi, his four brothers and their families, was carried to the temple in a parade on Thursday.

Managing trustee of the Somnath Temple Trust PK Laheri told that Lakhis, throughout their last visit three months ago, noted that the 'jyotirlinga' at this time had a silver platter, and promises to donate a gold one. The heavy platter was created by artisans in Delhi and carried to Somnath town by a train, under rigid security.

"This extraordinary offering has improved the meaning of the pilgrimage to this temple which is the conceit of not only Gujarat state but of entire nation," ex-chief minister Keshubhai Patel, who is too the Chairman of Somnath Temple trust, said.
