Delhi hospital Helpline for stroke launched

With the number of strokes on the rise, the Fortis hospital in Delhi on Tuesday launched a toll free helpline for the victims. The hospital chain stated that the helpline number 1800-200-3060 can be easily accessed from both mobiles and landlines in Delhi and NCR. The aim of launching this toll free helpline for the Delhi people is to get the stroke victim to a hospital as quickly as possible so that the diagnosis are done on time and the treatments can be done before any serious conditions appear. The FEHI has a dedicated and specialised expert team 24*7- a neurologist, a neuro-surgeon, emergency room, critical room, critical care, a cardiologist and radiologist- to provide comprehensive stroke treatment, informed by the hospital authority. A stroke is a major cause for loss of life, limbs and speech in India, with the Indian Council of Medical Research estimating that in 2004, there were 9.3 lakh cases of stroke and 6.4 lakh deaths due to stroke in India, most of the people being less than 45 years old. According to the WHO estimation, by 2050, 80 percent of stroke cases in the world would occur in low and middle income countries, mainly India and China.
