Earth Day 2013, A Fresh Beginning

The ecological movement will mark Earth Day on Monday with events locally and in a different place prominence responses to climate change and other challenges facing the planet. In the District, Union Station will be a center for execution of the 43rd anniversary of the first Earth Day in 1970. The Earth Day Network, a coordinating group, said the station will host a farmers bazaar, raffles, giveaways, a show from NASA and a recycling drive. There will talking at noon and live music at noon and 4:30 p.m. from the U.S. Army Field Band. There have been plentiful local Earth Day events right through the month, including a cleaning of the Anacostia River watershed Saturday. Bryan Buchanan, a spokesperson for the Earth Day Network, said this year’s subject is “the face of climate change.” The network, he said, is posting online photos and stories from people around the world who are manuscripting the issue and their responses. Climate change, he supposed, “has real consequences for real people, as well as places that we care for and animals. We desire to carry this massive problem down to size. It makes everybody who’s doing their little part feel associated to the bigger ecological movement.”
