India Avoids New Year to Mourn Rape Victim

It's the first day of 2013, and India greeted the New Year on a sorrowful and sober note. Big gatherings were cancelled and candle-light protests were organized in remembrance of the 23-year-old brave-heart, who passed away thirteen days after a most cruel sexual assault.

Protest marches sustained at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The public rallies are demanding tangible perfection in women's safety, revolutionize in law, power, policing and justice. Several hotels and clubs all over India rescinded their New Year celebrations.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar also called off their plans. Amongst these demands, rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh's New Year's show at a Gurgaon hotel was cancelled after online objections. The popstar told that he volunteered to wisp his concert. Honey Singh's songs have been assessing for having contentious lyrics which reportedly elevate rape in particular and are shameful to women in general.
