Raghav, Youngest Indian to Scale Everest

At the age of 15 years and seven months, Raghav Joneja from Moradabad turned out to be youngest Indian to climb the Mount Everest when he along with his five schoolmates summited the fifth highest mountain in the world. Raghav broke the record place by Manipur's Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba, at 16 years seven months and 11 days, as lately as last month, exceeding Arjun Vajpai's feat by a week. A student of Lawrence School, Sanawar, and Raghav attained the extraordinary feat on May 21 after boarding on a difficult 56 day-long journey. In the procedure, the team from one of Asia's present boarding schools, in Kasauli, became the youngest group and the first school team in the world to arrive at the top of the 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) mountain range. "It feels truly good to become the youngest Indian to summit such a hard peak. We trained for around eight months for this journey. Climbing the mountain with my schoolmates made it little easier," Raghav said of the journey supported by Hero Cycles. Raghav, firstly, was not part of the school's tour team selected after testing physical and mental stamina level of the consenting students. "I appealed our team leader Colonel Neeraj Rana to take me in the group as I was actually eager on taking up this challenge. I had to show them during our accommodation sessions at Ladakh that I can summit the Everest. Then only I was permitted to become a part of this voyage," he said. As well Raghav, Ajay Sohal (17), Prithvi Chahal (17), Shubham Kaushik (16), Fateh Brar (16), Guribadat Singh (17) scaled the peak while one of their associate Hakikat Grewal had to move back from 27,600 ft after facing problems with his oxygen mask. The team now harbors aims to scale Seven Summits, the utmost mountains of each of the seven continents, which is regarded as a mountaineering challenge.
