SC to Decide Common Medical Entrance Test

The Supreme Court is possibly to take a decision on Tuesday whether state governments and private universities can carry out personal entrance exams for admissions in medical courses. State governments and private universities had aimed to a Medical Council of India (MCI) determination for a common entrance test.

The results or scores of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will be announced based on Tuesday's judgment. In February 2012, the MCI declared the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test, an all-India entrance exam into MBBS and Post Graduation courses.

The opinion was to change the admission procedure and do away with many times entrance exams conducted by every state and private medical college. Various state government and private colleges embossed objections and proceeded the MCI to court.

Request for more time, the Supreme Court inquired the MCI, state universities and private institutions to conduct their individual entrance exams but not state results untill further orders from the apex court.
