The Tata Group is to disclose India's first native manufactured 155 mm howitzer in New Delhi on Monday. The 155/52 mm howitzer is accumulated on an eight-wheeled Tata truck for improved mobility. The gun was manufactured by its defense subsidiary Tata Power Strategic Electronics Division (SED) this year. The 'mounted gun system' can shoot a six-round bombardment on a goal 40 km away in less than three minutes.

The truck-mounted howitzer will be exhibited at a military seminar at the Maneckshaw centre tomorrow. The squash comes even as the Indian Army and the Ministry of Defense have fights back to bring in howitzers in excess of the past 25 years.

The Army obtained its very last howitzers over 25 years before, 410 FH-77B howitzers from AB Bofors of Sweden in 1987. Since after that, the army's howitzer arsenal has been seriously exhausted. Tata Power SED, the defense arm of the $100 billion Tata group, embarked on work on its 'Mounted Gun Project' more than two years before. The prototype gun was swayed out of the Tata Power SED facility in Bangalore's electronic city this October. It will lead the group's offer for the Army's necessity for 814 mounted gun systems for Rs.8500 crore. The Tata gun will be India's first new howitzer since it’s acquire of Bofors guns. The following bribery scandal torpedoed the attainment of further howitzers from Sweden. The Bofors howitzers executed fabulously in the Kargil clash of 1999. The Indian Army needs to purchase over 2200 such howitzers in five diverse categories but has been incapable to do so because of other corruption scandals relating firms like Rheinmetall, Singapore Technologies Kinetics, Soltam and Denel.
