TN Lost 700 Medical Seats & Recognition

Amidst towering demand for MBBS seats, matched by evidence capitation fee collections, one thing has gone ignored thus far. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has either declined or withdrawn recognition for at least half a dozen medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, and none of the colleges has been capable to win any acquittal from the Madras high court till now. In effect, these colleges which have a joint student intake of more than 700 have realized to their apprehension that the Supreme Court-stipulated time limit of July 15 for grant of MCI recognition too has gone by, with the high court declining to show them the usual lenience. "Now that the deadline for recognition has failed and the high court too has not come to their release, these medical colleges have no expected this year, unless the Supreme Court relaxes or extends the time limit. Even the MCI cannot do anything about it without the apex court's doze off," a senior advocate arguing the case told. The medical colleges which have queued up before the high court are: Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Madha Medical College and Hospital, Tagore Medical College and Hospital, Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute, Sri Devi Karumariamman Educational Trust. Two other colleges such as Asan Dental College and Hospital in Chennai and Mookambiga Dental College and Hospital have been declined authorization by the Dental Council of India to admit 100 students each during this academic year. All these institutions are prior to the Madras high court expecting to evade the MCI's denial orders by getting hold of at least a temporary order of keeping on from the court.
