Women In High Education Avoid Top Jobs

Despite their high amounts, women are rarely seen acting managerial roles in higher education sector. To modified this, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has been holding workshops for female college teachers that intent to propel the participants and raise their ambition levels.

A five-day UGC supported workshop titled Sensitivity, Awareness and Motivation (SAM) is underway at city's LAD College. This capability creating from raw materials workshop has contestants from Nagpur, Chandrapur, Amravati, Kamptee, Gondia, Yavatmal, Akola, Dariyapur and other nearby places. "When it comes to policy formulation and decision making, women in the teaching field are frightened of taking up the responsibility. These are yet male ascendant fields and women end up acquiring small or trivial roles," said local coordinator Hema Gedam.

Former UGC chairperson Armaity Desai has kickoff these workshops after announcement that the number of women present the meetings of the commission was very less.
