GM Seems to Hire 10,000 IT Workers

Biggest Automaker of USA, General Motors is now planning to hire up to 10,000 IT professionals in the next three-to-five years as it attempts to direct the auto industry with avant-garde technology.

GM is moving past layoffs and the Motor City's oxidized, low-tech image in a courageous and luxurious move to develop software and make up the most highly developed gizmos for your car, quite than buy software and other electronic applications from outside companies. Experts say it's also the launch of a trend as makers recognize that software is amongst the few things that will place them separately from competitors.

"The companies that developed the software themselves in all-purpose are going to have a benefit," says David Kirkpatrick, author of a book about Facebook and CEO of Techonomy Media Inc., a New York firm that experts in setting up technology meetings. "If you outsource the build of software in fussy to others, you can risk your own aptitude to race in the future."

General Motors isn't only in looking to move additional technology development under its roof. But the plans of its major opponent, Ford Motor Co., aren't practically as go-getting.

The company targets to carry out at least 90 percent of its computer technology effort into the company by employing workers to four new information technology centers throughout the nation. Ford just united GM, BMW AG and Renault-Nissan in opening a technology office in California's Silicon Valley, even though it's bodied by only about 15 people.

GM's first "Information Technology Innovation Center" was declared last month in Austin, Texas, with strategy to employ 500 programmers and software experts. And Monday the carmaker reveals plans to appoint 1,500 more at a second computer hub in Warren, Mich., on the campus of its major tech center.
