International Women's Day
International Women’s Day or rather known as International Working Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8. This is an important date for women all over the world for their different global achievements whether it is social, political or economic. Since its inception in 1909 as a Socialist Event, the day mixes itself in varied cultures of different countries especially in Russia and Europe. On this day appreciation, love and respect are being shown to women. Nowadays however 8th March has become a simple occasion when all men express their love for women just as they show it on a Mother’s Day or a Valentine’s Day.
History of International Women’s Day
The Socialist Party of America first announced the national Women’s Day on 28th of February 1909. Following this, the International Women’s Conference was being conducted on August 1910 in Copenhagen. Luise Zeitz, being influenced by the American Socialist Party suggested the establishment of International Women’s Day. Many delegates atleast 150 women from various countries supported this idea so as to promote their rights to equality within the society. People from Germany, Austria and Denmark also agreed on the idea of International Women’s Day in the following year (March 18, 1911). Women demanded:
- Right to vote
- Right to public office
- Right against Sex Discrimination
- Right for Employment
Finally, International Women’s Day was first celebrated as a demotic event after 1977 when members were being invited by the UN General Assembly to declare March 8 as the International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day 2011
